The Challenge

In order to guide our public school district successfully through the changes and issues Ohio schools are facing, we need a Board of Education that interacts with our community with responsibility, responsiveness and respect.

I have seen first hand many of the district’s challenges through my involvement with our district.  I believe I can help address them and keep our district strong by putting my knowledge and experience to use for us all.  I’ve worked extensively with the district on committees like the Business Advisory Council, Citizens for Excellent Schools, a Superintendent’s Committee, and various community groups.  All of these were designed to help us think outside the box, to get people with diverse views and experiences involved, and to figure out new & better ways of doing things.

These groups proved themselves successful.  They found ways for the district to save millions of dollars in administrative spending; shown  how Neighborhood Schools are the most cost-effective configuration for  our district; even created new academically-based programs for our  students.

“The community” is everyone in our community:  our students, of course, but also their parents, who may be facing financial hardships; our empty nesters, worried about their future; our seniors, living in a different future than they envisioned; our young people, just starting out; our private school families, struggling to deliver the choices they feel best for their family.  Our community is filled with diversity:  people who have lived here different amounts of time, people with a wide variety of needs, and people in various income brackets.

We are all part of the same community, and our Board of Education must represent us all.  True, a school board must represent our public school students – but not at the expense of the rest of the community.
